Access Statement for The Windsor Carlton Guest Accommodation

Introduction

The Windsor Carlton 4 Star Guest Accommodation is located in the quieter North Shore Area of Blackpool and offers eleven rooms in a Three Storey Victorian Building, built in the early 1900's as a boarding house.
 
Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility.
Our rooms are all on different levels, all accessed by varying amounts of stairs.
 
The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to contact us and we will endeavour to help.

Pre-Arrival

• We are located just off the promenade on Warley Road
 
• The nearest bus stop is located on the promenade 100 Metres away and there is a frequent bus service. There is also a bus stop 150 Metres away on Dixon Road. From this bus stop there is a regular bus service in to the town centre and Bispham in the opposite direction.

• The nearest tram stop is located on the promenade 50 Metres away and there is a frequent tram service.

• The main train station is Blackpool North and 1.5 miles away. Taxis are available at the station. We can book one for you in advance if required.
 
• There are several local taxi companies that have accessible taxis, if required. We can make a booking for you.

• The nearest shops, restaurants and takeaways are located 250 Metres away.
 
• Our menus can be provided in large print by prior arrangement.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
 
• Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so we can be sure we are here to welcome you.

• To ensure your accommodation is ready we ask that guests do not arrive before 2.00pm. Earlier arrival may, however be possible by prior arrangement.

• Car parking facilities are (subject to availability) on Warley Road, or adjacent streets or, there is a public car park 4 minutes walk from us.
There are no restrictions on or around Warley Road.

• Access to the property is via a gateway.

• We offer assistance with guest’s luggage.

Main Entrance & Reception

The entrance lobby is accessed via two steps, the first is 26cm high with a depth of 32cm, the second is17.5cm high with a depth of 38cm, both having good contrast.
 
The entrance doors remain open during the day and part of the evening and are 117cm wide, side hung with no threshold. There are handrails either side of the doors.  When locked, assistance can be obtained by a doorbell located on the left.

The floor is non slip ceramic tile and of good colour contrast.

The front door remains locked and is 80cm wide, side hung (right) with low threshold.

Assistance can be obtained by means of a door bell located on the left

On entry there is a hallway (150cm x 490cm) within this area is the reception desk (170cm high).
 
There is laminated wooden flooring throughout the ground floor, good colour contrast and the area is well lit.

There are a range of notices, guest information within this area.

 A 'please ring for assistance' bell is located within the reception area.

The door to the guest lounge/dining room leads off the hallway with an 'entrance' sign to the top of the door .  The door is a self-closing fire door (75cm)

Public Areas - General (Internal)

From the hallway you approach the first flight of stairs (12 steps) with handrail to left and right, leading to small landing.  To the left of the small landing are 3 steps with handrail to the right leading to corridor.  Also off the small landing to the right, there are 4 steps with handrail to right and left, leading to larger landing.  This leads to 2nd flight of stairs (13 steps), with handrail to left and right, leading to a small landing.  To the left of the small landing is one step to corridor. To the right of the small landing is 3 steps with handrail to left and right leading to small landing.

 All stairs are 20cm high, 26.5cm deep and 80cm wide.

All stairs and corridors have good colour contrast and are well lit; all flooring is short pile carpet.

Public Areas - WC

The unisex public W.C. is located on the first floor to the left and is accessed via two self closing fire doors. The door to the W.C. is 68cm wide with the floor surface being vinyl and carpet, the walls mainly tiled with wallpaper at high level and the dimensions of the room are 300cm x 80cm. Signage for the W.C. is found at high level on the fire door.

The wash hand basin has pillar taps and does not have thermostatic control.

Lounge/Dining Room

 The guest lounge/dining room is located on the ground floor and is located through a self closing fire door.  Within the dining/lounge area are 9 dining tables with chairs, 2 tub chairs and upright seating.  The tables are 2 sizes, 122cmx61cm and 77.5cm height; 76cmx76cm and 77.5cm high.  The bar located within the dining room is 143cm wide x 115cm high x 38cm deep.  Within the dining/lounge room is a remote controlled digital television.  The floor is laminated and a good colour contrast. The proprietors are licensed to sell alcohol. Crockery is white.  All table dressing in red and white.  Waitress/waiter service is provided.  Menus are available in large print.  Special dietery needs are catered for.

Bedrooms

 All our bedrooms are en-suite and of contemporary design with modern furniture. All bar one of our first floor bedrooms have laminate flooring of a good colour contrast.  Room 1 has a short pile carpet.  All second floor bedrooms have short pile carpet.  All rooms are well lit and colour co-ordinated. Some rooms have uninterrupted sea views and some have sea views and two do not have sea views at all. There is a wardrobe, chest of draws below a desk and bed side cabinets in all rooms.  All rooms have additional seating and some rooms have small tables; please contact us for specific details.
All rooms have remote control flat screen digital televisions.
Tea and coffee facilities are provided.
We also provide a hair dryer and toiletries.
Towels are provided and fridge on request is provided.
All beds have duck feather & down duvets. All beds have pillows. Synthetic duvets available on request.  We are happy to provide sheets and blankets if preferred. 
Please specify before your arrival.
There is a welcome pack in each room which contains further information. Details of fire procedures are noted on the back of the bedroom door. 
Emergency contacts including doctors and hospitals, etc are in the welcome pack.  We ask all guests to take a moment to read the welcome pack.
Bedroom 1:                                                                      
This is the largest bedroom in the accommodation with a 5’ king divan bed – 55cm high, accessible from both sides.  This room takes 2 additional z-beds
(41cm high;136cm long and 2’ 6” wide) only at the discretion of the Proprietors or a single 3’ divan bed – 55cm high, accessible from both sides, again at the discretion
of the Proprietor.
Bedroom 2:
This is a single room with a 3’ single divan bed – 55cm high accessible from one side.
Bedroom 3:
This is the 2nd largest bedroom in the accommodation with a 4’ 6” double divan bed – 55cm high and a 3’ single divan bed – 55cm high; the double accessible from both
sides and the single accessible from one side.
Bedroom 4 and bedroom 10:
Standard size bedrooms,  have a 4’ 6” double divan bed – 55cm high and a 3’ single divan bed – 55cm high; the double accessible from both sides and the single
accessible from one side.
Bedroom 5:
A large double bedroom with a 4’ 6” double divan bed – 55cm high, accessible from both sides.
Bedroom 6, 7 and 9:
Standard size bedrooms with a 4’ 6” double divan bed – 55cm high, accessible from both sides.

Bedroom 8 and 11:
Standard size bedrooms with 2 3’ single divan beds – 55cm high in each bedroom, accessible from one side.

En-suites:

All our bedrooms have en-suite shower facilities, of contemporary design with modern fittings.
All are accessed through doors with a minimum width of 68.5cm.
All walls are partly tiled with contrasting non slip flooring; all rooms are well lit and colour co-ordinated.
The wash hand basin is round fronted with a height of 80.5cm.
The low level WC is 42cm high.
The shower cubical has a minimum opening of 61cm and the tray is 12cm high.
All showers are electric and some have on/off buttons and some have a turn dial, all with a temperature control dial.
Shower mats and towels provided to all en-suites
Bodywash/hair and handsoap in all en-suites; plastic cups and container of cotton buds/cotton wool

Grounds and Garden:

We have a medium sized area of concrete base to the front of the accommodation.
The boundary is defined with a low wall and there are a selection of planters and garden area located on two of the boundary walls, leaving clear walkways. There are two garden tables and 7 chairs made of wood and a wooden bench.

Additional Information

We have a L2 fire detection system, with call points, sounders and fire extinguishers on each floor.  All rooms and means of escape are fitted with optical smoke detectors.  Fire action notices are placed by each call point and information in case of fire is attached to each bedroom door.  Please inform us at time of booking if you would require assistance evacuating the building.
All guests are informed of evacuation procedure on familiarisation tour.
A full emergency lighting system is installed, and stairwells and final exit are permanently illuminated.
Mobile phone reception is generally good.
We are a non smoking establishment (smoking is only permitted outside for which an ashtray is provided).
Any items, ie medication, special foods/milk needing to be refrigerated can be put in Proprietors’ fridge or small fridge available for room, on request.
We are happy to take delivery of hired equipment (please inform us if ordered); post to those who stay for long period, ie business people.
We are happy to cater for special diets, or any particular likes or dislikes.  Please advise us at time of booking.
